Iceland Takes Over NYC for the NORTH Nordic Food Festival
Experience Iceland Day, Sept. 26, at the NORTH Festival!
Updated 9/25/15 at 3:40pm EST: We’ve made a few minor changes to the schedule. Gretta Ólafsdóttir will no longer host a talk about Icelandic film, but will lead a 15-minute intro to the shortened Icelandic Shorts & Docs event (now from 7:45-9pm). We have also moved the Icelandic music video series with Curver Thoroddsen to the end of the day (9-10pm). You can find an updated schedule below.
September 26 is your day to experience authentic Icelandic cuisine and culture without leaving New York City! During Iceland Day, part of the NORTH Nordic Food Festival, attendees can enjoy a pop-up Icelandic brunch and dinner with renowned Icelandic Chef Thráinn Freyr Vigfusson of Blue Lagoon's LAVA restaurant, cocktail classes with Iceland’s own Reyka Vodka led by Trevor Schneider, music, film, Iceland lectures as well as presence from Brennivin, Icelandic Glacial Water, Icelandair and Icelandic Brand Seafood. Iceland’s cuisine has earned numerous awards, and may even be the secret to the country’s happiness. Brunch Icelandic style with Chef Thráinn Freyr Vigfusson’s delicious menu featuring both traditional Icelandic ingredients in new, surprising ways, and inventive Reyka Vodka and Brennivin cocktails. In Iceland, it’s more truth than myth that sheep outnumber Icelanders – by quite a bit. Pay homage to the country’s main export of wool with this Icelandic knitting demonstration, led by Steinunn Harðardóttir.

World Champion and Bocuse d'Or contestant chef, Thráinn Freyr Vigfusson of Blue Lagoon’s LAVA restaurant, will hold an open forum between the morning’s brunch and the evening’s dinner receptions, diving into the sustainability, tradition, and innovation in Iceland cuisine.

7-10: A Taste of Iceland Dinner with Chef Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson
This once-in-a-blue-lagoon dinner, prepared by Icelandic chef Thráinn Freyr Vigfusson, highlights Iceland’s fresh local fish, langoustine and lamb. 7:45-9pm: Reykjavik Shorts and Docs
Local Icelandic New York documentary director and producer Gréta Ólafsdóttir will introduce a series of Icelandic film screenings specially curated by the Reykjavik Shorts & Docs Festival.
9-10: Iceland Music Video Series with Curver Thoroddsen
Icelandic artist and musician Curver Thoroddsen welcomes lovers of music and visual artists to participate in an hour of storytelling and interactive music video presentations to introduce an American audience to the pulse of music and art in Iceland.
