Upcoming Icelandic Art Exhibits in the US!
From now until June 2018, these two internationally known artists will be sharing their work in Ohio and California.
From January 27 to March 16, Arngunnur Ýr will show “Witness,” a series focusing on the message of climate change and her desire to find a solution. “The works aim to be a ballad, a love song to a nature soon lost,” said Ýr. “They have a delicate, tender quality, but equally project a more violent, forlorn and freakish side, like a deer in the headlights.” Her work will be displayed at the San Marco Gallery at the Dominican University of California. Ýr is an artist living in both San Francisco and Iceland. She has studied at schools across the globe and has her artwork displayed by a variety of companies including: Icelandair and Reykjavik Art Museum. For more details on this show click here.
From March 30 to June 17 you will find Ragnar Kjartansson’s work in the Cincinnati Art Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kjartansson’s work is a multi-channel video piece: “The Visitors and 6 Scenes from Western Culture.” This installation consists of multiple voices and sounds coming together in song revealing heartbreak, solace and deep emotion. Kjartansson typically creates experiences in his art, from endurance based performances to video installations. Kjartansson says his works are “always about a feeling, but there’s no story.” To find out more about this show click here.
