Trevor Schneider tells us what inspires him to create unique Reyka cocktails.
Meet Trevor Schneider! Trevor is a Reyka Vodka National Ambassador who loves coming up with new ways to incorporate Reyka into his cocktails. Read all about his Icelandic experiences and favorite Reyka recipe:
What was your first impression of Iceland?
When I landed in Iceland, I felt like I was on a different planet. It helped me have a wider understanding of what makes Reyka Vodka so unique, since our spirit uses so many of Iceland’s awe-inspiring natural resources to craft our vodka.
What are 3 words you would use to describe Iceland?
Beautiful, scenic and adventurous! It is incredible to think that Iceland’s natural beauty contributes to making Reyka Vodka.
Do you remember where you had your first cocktail in Iceland? What was it?
After landing in Iceland for my first visit, I went to a restaurant called Grillmarket in Reykjavík where I ordered a Reyka Vodka neat.
What is one thing you must do when you visit Iceland?
Every time I visit Iceland, I must go to a geothermal pool (like Blue Lagoon!). The naturally heated water is some of the purest in the world and rare to find.
What are your must-have essentials when packing for Iceland?
As I am preparing for my trip to the Land of Fire and Ice, I make sure to pack a variety of clothing to layer and footwear for all terrain. Every day is an adventure when I’m out there so I try to be prepared for everything.
What is your favorite go-to bar in Iceland?
My favorite bar is Lebowski Bar, and I always order the Reyka White Russian.
What’s a cocktail that you created inspired by Iceland?
The Icelandic Old Fashion is a simple cocktail I created inspired by my visits to Iceland. As Reyka Vodka already embodies the charming characteristics of Iceland’s provenance and people – created using Icelandic glacial spring water, filtered through lava rocks and distilled through a Carter-Head Still powered by geothermal energy – it’s taste is so crisp and clean that with just some sugar and bitters, it is a true taste of Iceland.
Icelandic Old Fashion
1 ½ parts Reyka Vodka
10 drops of Reyka Bitters
1 domino sugar cube
*Build in an Old Fashioned glass - few dashes Reyka Bitters on Domino sugar cube and bar spoon of club soda. Crush with bar spoon and make into a paste. Add Reyka Vodka and stir. Garnish with citrus zest.
